1. PURPOSE:
1.1 To establish a guideline to ensure the entry procedure for microbiology laboratory.
2. SCOPE:
2.1 This procedure must be followed during entering the microbiology laboratory.
3. PROCEDURE:
3.1 Entry Procedure for microbiology Laboratory
3.1.1
Remove the footwear used in the chemical Lab or street at the entrance of the microbiology laboratory.
3.1.2
Remove the apron that is used at the chemical laboratory or outside area & place it on the apron hook / locker.
3.1.3
Wash the hands with an approved food safe detergent, e.g., Dettol soap etc.
3.1.4
Wear the Apron, which is dedicated for usage in the microbiology Laboratory.
3.1.5
Remove the street shoes & change to the footwear dedicated to be used in the microbiology laboratory or Wear fresh shoe cover over the street shoe.
3.1.6
Remove the ornaments such as finger ring, watch etc. prior to working or wear surgical gloves.
3.1.7
Wear Head cover / cap to properly cover the hair.
3.1.8
Disinfect your hand 5% Dettol (
1:20
ratio) / 70% Isopropyl alcohol / 50 PPM Sodium Hypochlorite prior to starting the work.
4. PRECAUTIONS:
4.1 Precautions to be taken while entering the microbiology laboratory.
4.1.1
Do not wear street footwear & apron into the microbiology Laboratory, this can bring in cross contamination during the analysis.
4.1.2
Do not wear ornaments such finger ring, watch etc. during the analysis, the crevices of the finger ring or watch can bring in cross contamination during the analysis. If not wear surgical gloves during analysis to avoid contamination.
